Default Dash warning lights not working

Hello, I have a Toyota Estima 2003 (same as Previa). My rear break light bar across the top window failed and the light warning symbol came on on the dash. It was some time before husband got round to replacing it, but the warning light remained on despite not finding any faulty lights on the car. That little light has now gone off, and I realise that most of the dash lights are also off. Some still on (when the key is part turned in the ignition) . Are they on separate fuses (if so, where are they) or could the bulbs in dash be blown? Any ideas as Toyota dealer will charge just to look at it! The difficulty is that now I won't know if a bulb blows, especially break and reversing lights.
