Default How to replace light bulbs behind HVAC panel?

I'm trying to replace the 2 light bulbs behind the 3 knob HVAC control panel on a 2005 Matrix XR.

I have the bulbs, have taken-off the trim on the front of the panel, pulled the radio for better access and released the little tabs that hold the control panel in place.

But I can only reach the bulb on the passenger side. The driver's side bulb is set too deeply for me to hold a mirror and get to.

Is there a proper way to get the panel out of the dash? Or tilt it down for access to the back? The cables on the left and right knobs prevent me from pulling the panel out.

Any one know how the techs do it?

Frank
