Default 1991 Tercel noise from differential

my 1991 tercel (front wheel drive) with automatic transmission makes noise from the differential. Differential was dry, added fluid but noise is still present. Can the differential be repaired without removing the transmission?

The noise is similar to brake pads rubbing...but have confirmed it is not the brakes. Any help on repairing the differential without removing the transmission would be appreciated... Any help with assembly pictures from Toyota manual will help also. THANKS

Could be that the axle seal from the differential is dry and leaking out the oil. Dont drive until this gets fixed else you could be driving with nothing in the differential case.
