Default Finding The Right, Safe Speed For High MPG/Range

Finding the right speed for maximum fuel savings in your Toyota Prius or electric range in an EV like a Tesla takes a little more thought than a simple rule of thumb can cover. Whatever you drive, here are some things to think about.

In the first part of this series, I covered some basic safety rules for eco-driving. In this part, I'm going to focus on finding the best speed for maximum range--without extra risk to life or limb.

Around the internet, people say a lot of dumb things about driving slow to get better mileage. Some recommend just driving the speed limit. Others say to drive a certain speed, like 55 MPH or 60 MPH, for best mileage. Others say to vary your speed depending on terrain (and they're partly right there). But you also have to think about the other cars on the road.
