Default I have a 1985 toyota pickup with a 22re engine that idles down and dies when it is

gear. Anybody know why? it idles good in park and neutral but dies in gear. I changed the plugs and wires. Somebody said maybe my coil but they are kind of expensive. Please help.

it could be because you are putting a load on it. maybe the idle is set to low or maybe you have a vacuum leak coming from somewhere there are lots of reasons this can be happening. i would start with a fuel injection system cleaning and a check of all vacuum hoses

Hi wadeschlad...
Sorry to bother you, but just wondering if you got truck straightened out and if so, what you did. I was surfing internet trying to find info on same problem [except my '85 just idles erratically instead of dies when put into gear] and came across your post. I know your post is 8 years old, but thought I'd ask your outcome anyway.
