Toyota Yaris oil reccomendations?

Would like advice from a Toyota engineer on engine oil for a 2004 Yaris, have been told that it should be a fully synthetic oil, however I used to run my Corolla that I have recently traded in on a part synthetic 10/40, it was trouble free all the years that I owned it. Any advice would be appreciated.

SAE 10W40, API SL, SM, SN are mostly semi synthetic oils. SN is preferable.
But fully synthetic oils come in the grading and classification of SAE 0W20, 5W20 and 5W30 (SK, SL, SM....). But the synthetic engine oil 5W20 (with the highest second letter assigned to S in front of API number for example SN is better than SM) is considered to be the best among all. Synthetic engine oils do not lose their viscosity even driving continuously up to 200 miles. They do not decompose into their elements under extreme pressures and temperature. The engine oils depend on the ambient temperature in which the car has to be driven.
