The answer is yes Toyota is discontinuing the FJ Cruiser because of poor sales. I don't know if they will replace it or not, but doubt it because of the recall on most Toyota's & reliability issues plaguing the companies products.

While the answer to your question might be a yes about the vehicle being discontinued, but as a person that has been in the business of things that roll on wheels since 1969, that might not be the full answer.

For example, one of the things that has always amazed me about people buying vehicles is, they don't always buy the one they like. For example, is you like the FJ, then buy it. Why care about what you think it might be worth, or not worth, down the road....if your value issue is the main thing, then buy a used one in the first place...that way it's already depreciated a lot. Remember, a car is not an investment...it's a depreciating asset (and I use the term asset, very loosely).

Many years ago, I had a customer that wouldn't buy a new 1972 Chrysler Newport because it had vinyl seats...he had to have cloth seats. So, he purchased one from another dealer 20 miles away and the first thing he did, was take it to an upholstery shop and have thick clear vinyl seat covers put it in...the kind that a lot of our grandmothers used to use on their sofas. I'm still trying to figure that one out almost 40 years later!

I've seen customers look at five white 1985 T-Birds, all alike except for interior colors & a very few minor option differences and finally pick the one that was about $500 cheapest. Buy it and then take it down to spend another $1000 to get an upgraded stereo system...but never really compared the stickers, as the other models already had a better upgraded stereo system in them! So the guy didn't save a dime, but actually spent $500 more than needed. Point is, it's amazing how little people really compare apples to apples when buying vehicles. And, I've seen people buy a white car because it was less than the same exact car red...but the red one was a little cheaper...again, why buy someone you really don't like because it's cheaper?

If you're worried about future value, then let me give you a couple of great recent examples. The Chrysler PT Cruiser and the latest Ford T-Bird. When both came out, they were selling for thousands over sticker price. The Crusier was/is nothing more that a Neon with a sexier body stuck on it. The T- Bird...well, all I can say is, if you want to spend close to $50k on a car that is really more of a around town/maybe go the the mountains for a weekend car (more of a second-toy car)...then why not actually go ahead and buy an original 1955-57 for around the same money...and it would still be worth what you paid for it when you get tired of it!

If you like the way a Fj looks...rides...handles...cost of operation, etc., they buy it, enjoy the heck out of it

If price is always the issue when buying a new vehicle, then the answer is very simple: buy a used one.
