I bought a car from a use car dealer. At first the engine light was not on. By the time I brought it home it turned on. The dealer said its not a big deal however Toyota said I need to get it check out or bigger issues will come up. Does anyone know how to reset the engine light or tell me whats wrong so I can tell the dealer that he sold me a bad car and he needs to fix it?

Engine lights can be a sign of any number of problems. The computer will have a code in it that a special computer is able to read and tell the user what the exact problem is. As Mike said, you can take it into Autozone or Pep boys or even the toyota dealer and get them to check the code, they will then be able to tell you what is causing the problem and if it is a concern. They will also be able to reset the light if it's not a big deal.

Sound like your emissions system is on its way out - not cheap to get fixed - new cat converters will be needed.

auto zone or pep boys will scan your car for free to see whats wrong with it

yes you are hot! But seriously, if the engine management light comes on, with a Toyota, there is a problem. These cars are good and unlike say a Vauxhall or Peugeot, the lights really mean something! Get it looked at, good luck gorgeous!

It could be several different things. Could be a simple as a needed oil change. Could be serious. Needs to be checked.
