spark plugs,plug wires,fuel filter,air filter,fuel pump,bad gas,.........................any of these could be the problem,.....give that 22R a good tune up and it'll be fine.

Check to see if you have a vacuum hose off, under your hood you have a emission diagram. Check and see they are hooked up correct. Is the idle set to low? EGR valve leaking? If you hold the throttle at a steady rate does it stay, if not try turning up the idle adjustment screw maybe its just set to low. Take off the air cleaner and see if your choke is stuck closed. Sounds like a vacuum hose to me, they get brittle and crack thus sucking air and making your engine want to stall.
Good luck

Instead of throwing parts at it, just replace what's wornout or broken. Being carburated makes it alot EZ'r to trouble shoot to find the problem.
