i have a gas leak and my boyfriend dropped the tank and came to the conclusion that its the sending unit. does anyone know where i can get a new one? i called around to a few parts stores and didnt have any luck. i'm being told that the part has to be ordered from a dealer. which from what i understand costs like double what you would normally pay in a parts store. or does anyone have any idea what one of these would cost? i'm totally screwed if i dont get this fixed asap. but i'm very very limited on money right now. please help!!
just in case he's wrong, if it is the sending unit, would it leak whether the vehicle is on or off and cause the car to not wanna start without having to pump the brakes? i dont drive it anymore so i had to de-pressurize the tank to get it to stop leaking

Ok if you cannot get it at regular parts stores. then it does not cost double. If you need one and the dealership is your only option, then what are your other choices besides junk yard?
