I have had the thing from new, only bought new tyres. Original battery, original exhaust, not even replaced a light bulb. 60,000 miles on the clock
Have I been lucky or is this sort of reliability normal on this model of vehicle.

i wouldnt say you have been lucky. id say what you have experienced is normal.
while toyotas are great cars that run for a long long time with the minimal amount of work I also have to admit that a 7 yo car with only 60,000 miles SHOULD still have its original exhaust and battery.
my 2002 bmw 325i has only had 6 oil changes, one set of brakes, and one set of tires, and that is it. no other work done. and she has 91,500 miles.

Toyota cars are one of the most reliable, as long as you don't take them to a Toyota dealership since they will tell you that you need new this and that once the 3 year warranty has run out. The dealership know that unless they come up with fictitious repairs they will have nothing to do on Toyota cars.

That's pretty standard for a well maintained, carefully driven Toyota.
I don't want to burst your bubble, but if you can afford it, now would be a good time to get a new one, since nothing lasts forever, even a Toyota will wear out its brakes, exhaust etc. eventually and at 7 years old, these things will happen sooner rather than later.
