We only have one key and I know we need at least one or two more just in case. No manual to consult. Do I need to get a transponder key or not? Can anyone help?????Called dealer and they were no help over the phone.

No, don't need a transponder key.

It all depends....

In my experience, if the Camry has a 4 cylinder engine, it does not have a "chipped" key.

If it is a V-6, then it probably is chipped. The easiest way to find out is take your existing key to a Toyota Dealership and talk to the parts counter person.

They can tell by looking at it. Make sure you take your VIN number with you. That will let them know what your specific car has. The easiest way to get the VIN number is take the registration for your license plates in with you. They will probably want to see your ID as well... Some states have laws regarding key duplication. In the dealership I worked at, we were not allowed to duplicate a key unless we verified that the registration matched the person's ID. We wouldn't want to cut a key for someone so they could steal your car... :-}

Best of luck...
