My hubby and I installed a new Sony radio in my Rav4 and realized once we got all the radio into the dash and everything lookin' good, the dash lights wont work. We checked out the wiring color guide and realized that the orange illumination/dimmer wire was unused, however we couldn't find a matching wire for it on the stereo.

What do we connect the orange wire to in order for my dash lights to work again? There was also 2 blue wires that had no pairs. The Remote Turn on and the Power Antenna.

Thanks Lee for explaining a bit about how it works. What we did is we bought a harness kit that plugged into the pre-existing plugs that the old toyota radio was plugged into. The Wiring harness then plugs into that and the wires are free to dangle so you can match up the wires with the radio's harness kit and crimp them together. When we finished crimping the like colored wires together, their were leftover wires, 2 blues and an orange that didnt have a match.

We bought a Sony CDXGT310 radio that has Ipod capabilities, if that helps at all. Is there any way for the orange wire be hooked upwith another wire? A red or a yellow that would give it power to operate the dash? I find it unlikely that a car stereo sold at a retailer would only work wit h certain models of cars.
