The cylinders will not fire when starting the car. I have already replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. The mechanic is stumped. It can be driven several times before the problem arises again. Also, it may not start on several tries and than start with no problem. Than it repeats the problem. This is why the mechanic is havig a problem in finding the trouble and solution.

the most common problem is the ignition pick up coil located inside the distributor is bad. replace the entire distributor

I have a Toyota Camry 1992 and it has 260,000 miles on it and still going strong. I know this sounds weird but when my car doesnt start I splash the battery cable connectors with a big dose of vinegar and it sends a electrolytic reponse to the starter and cranks right up. The weird thing is my battery cables aren't corroded or my battery is not dead. The vinegar does something. I used it for a school science project and actually demonstrated how a small amount of eclectricity can be produced by a pickle. Go figure. If all else fails try it. Try it Now..I just realized you only have 140,000 miles on it. Your car is a young'en compared to mine.

You have a 15 year old car... it's been used... you might just have a bum motor.... yes, it probably can be fixed, but chances are that it's going to cost more than it's worth.

Make sure you have a good set of plugs and wires... if you are smelling fuel when you try to start up, that could be the problem.
