My 1994 Toyota Corolla has been out of commission for 9 months now. When I try starting it it takes a while to get it started. It then only goes down the road a very little piece then shuts off. Almost everything except the overall distributor cap has been replaced and the fuel pump. The problem seems to be that it is not getting enough gas. What would cause this problem?

A friend of mine had the same problem two months ago
('94 or '95 Corolla, don't remember which). The ground
wire for the fuel injectors was loose.
He could drive it up to 10-12 miles and it would stall...
then wouldn't start. It took a couple weeks to find the
problem.
Just a thought...

maybe your carburetor float delivers less fuel and the fuel filters are dirty that's why the fuel could not enter freely to the carburetor...

"Fuel injected engines are very sensitive to fuel pressure as well as fuel volume. Low pressure will cause starting and driveability problems. A pump that can deliver adequate pressure but not enough volume may allow the engine to start and idle normally, but it will starve the engine for fuel and cause a loss of power when the engine is under load, accelerating hard or cruising at highway speeds."
Try spraying some "quick start" starting fluid into the air intake duct to see if the engine immediately starts and runs better at first indicating a fuel delivery problem.
