interested to know if 87 octane is safe for engine

If you are supposed (or recommended) to use premium gas, it woulds be labeled so on the gas cap body cover.

Even if you are suppose to use premium gas, if your car has engine knock sensor (most cars do), then you can safely use regular (87) gas. You just have to know that you will notice lack of power in hot days, accelerating, pulling heavy weight (car fully loaded) and climbing uphill
