Hi there,
New to the forum and hoping you may be able to help me with a few problems I've noticed with our elderly automatic Hiace van.
Firstly, I have had a couple of times recently where the car refuses to start. When I turn the key it just makes a 'clunk' noise and doesn't activate the starter. Could this be a problem with the starter solenoid?
The Second problem is to do with driving at higher speeds (generally around 70-100 kph), when it hits the top gear (overdrive) there is an occasional drop off and surge of power (similar but not as severe as when fuel is almost out). Its an automatic box so could this be something to do with the adjustment of the box?
The third and final issue is with a knocking sound coming from the front of the vehicle. I've noticed it at low turning speeds when parking, going over bumpy ground or making a turn at full lock.
Anyway, thats it, it would be fantastic if you could help me out with these problems, I'm on a tight budget to would have to carry out any repairs myself.
Thanks.
