View Full Version : toyota mr2 mk2. my speedometer has stopped (suddenly). is cable replacement garuff1958@btinternet.com 11-22-2007, 05:46 AM straight forward? thanks for speedsensor info' is this an easy replacement? don't have maual yet James 11-22-2007, 05:47 AM nope - its a pain in the neck to repair/replace the speedo cable, because of the awkward routing through to the engine Some of the MK2's have a speedometer cable, later ones have an electrical connection to the speedo. I helped a friend replace a broken cable a couple of years ago on his 1991 Mk2 MR2 - it took us 4-5 hours of struggling and swearing! Lots of awkward areas to try and work through (plus we weren't experts!) did it in the end though. Good luck Granny 11-22-2007, 05:47 AM Could also be the pointer is stuck.I worked for 20yrs for a company that makes the pointers and its happened Nestor Q 11-22-2007, 05:47 AM Check the fuses to see if there isn't anyone that's busted. If that doesn;t solve the problem, then maybe you have an issue with the wiring. It could be a problem outside the dash under the hood. The worst case scenario is that you'll have to remove the dash and get behind the speedometre to see if there is any problem with the wiring or the speedometre itself. You can do this fairly easily but only if you have the inclination, time and patience. jareihart 11-22-2007, 05:48 AM you need to get with the times...now a days they use a speed sensor and there is no cable at all C Greene 11-22-2007, 05:48 AM You won't fail your mot so unless you're really bothered leave it, I did & yes, it passed the mot thomasz 06-04-2008, 07:33 AM Search google.
