i want to install a more powerful engine on it.

the toyota tercel came out with a 3-ee motor. they did make a few 3-efte motors that had turbo chargers on them. they also made a 4-efte motor but you have to change cv axles, motor, trans, ecu and wiring horness. the 3-efte motor just change exaust manafold, tapped cover and oil pan, oil filter location. by changing this you only gain is 45 hp.. you can get a whole motor for about $1000.00.

Of course, but knowing what engine will bolt in would be optimal. But then again, with a cutting torch and a welder, anything can be done.
