I am interested in purchasing a camper/trailer to reduce hotel costs when I go out of town. I have a 2003 Toyota Highlander V6 All Wheel Drive. It currently does not have a hitch, I know I would need to purchase one. Is it possible for this vehicle to safely tow a standard recreational trailer?

You can probably tow 2000lbs max. The highlander is based on the Camry and is not a real truck/SUV. The weakest link is your transmission, it is small and will wear out quickly if you try to haul heavy loads. You would be better off with a 4runner as it is truck based and can tow a heavier trailer without problems.

it can tow at most 3500 lbs if properly equipped. Even if you have everything the vehicle needs to tow that a real large camper is going to be too heavy, you might be able to tow a real small one but that is going to be pushing it
