Also, any ideas on how to fix the leak? The transmission has a bad leak and is not engaging into gear from a stop until the RPM's go up and does not transfer into high gear when going over 50 mph. The problem is not so bad when it is filled with trans fluid, but I don't want to keep filling it with the bad fluid in it. I think the fluid has over 100k on it. The transmission probably has a lot of gunk in it, which is part of the problem. It might be ruined. If I fix the leak and flush out all the very bad fluid I am wondering if it will work properly. I want to do this myself.

Do it yourself? You could, but to fix the problems you say you have. I'd take to a Trans. shop to have serviced and let them worry about it. For under 100 bucks you don't have to do a thing but watch. ~:)

The thing you need to remember is, if the transmission is slipping or not going into gear properly, the damage is already done. You might already be beyond just fixing a leak and everything's ok. Before you spend money on fluid and filters, get it checked out.

Shocktrooper should get the best answer for this one.replacing ALL the fluid yourself is going to be messy, and you probably wont get it all!I just had one done for $850.00!!!
