MP3 players.? The brochure with the car shows an IPOD connected on a special port on the RAV4, but nobody at the dealership seems to know how it works.

It looks like a headphone cord with a headphone plug on both ends. This will let you hook your ipod to the stereo for the best possible sound. FM modulators and tape adapters are vastly inferior. The great thing about having an aux input is that you can have the best sound for the least amount of money- this cord should cost you about 4 bucks. There are more expensive fancier solutions like the Harman/Kardon play + drive which give you more convenience but not better sound quality.
